Frank Upston was born in Atherstone in October 1895. He and his family appear as residents of West Haddon in the 1911 Census which shows his father Edward as Head of the Household, aged 47, born 1864 in Chipping Norton employed as the village sub-postmaster/newsagent sharing the home with his wife Mary Jane aged 46, born 1864 in Atherstone (Nee Chevin) employed as “assist business”, their daughter Gladys Annie aged 18, a sub-postmaster assistant and Frank their son, aged 15 employed as a telegram messenger.
Frank’s military attestation was held on 20/11/1915 and this was approved on 31/1/1916. He was posted to the Northampton and Suffolk regiment. His Regimental Number was 43814. His rank was “Private”. His record also shows his regiment as Royal Garrison Artillery – Regimental Number 22933.
A document from the Ministry of Pensions Award Office, Chelsea dated 19/3/1917 showed the following movements:

He was placed on the Class P Army Reserve on 13/3/1917 “Being no longer physically fit for war service”
He served 1 year 65 days plus 329 days in reserve making total pensionable service of 2 years 29 days.
Frank married Mary Nelson in September, 1924 in Brixworth
Frank’s father died in June, 1921 aged 57.
His mother died on April 15th 1934 aged 69.
Frank Upston died March 1966 aged 70
