Fred Booker

Fred Booker was baptised Frederick Edward Booker on 30/10/1881, His father was Charles Adams Booker, born in West Haddon in 1855, a Blacksmith. His mother was Sarah (Nee Skinner) born in Priors Marston in 1860. Fred was the second child of seven born to the marriage. He had three brothers John Henry, Charles William and George Robert. A fourth brother Henry died aged 7 weeks. He also had two sisters Kate and Caroline Mary.

An article in the Northampton Mercury dated 26/4/1904 gives a glimpse of village life at that time. It reported on a Fancy Dress cycle parade around the village “In the class for Comic Costume one Fred Booker, dressed as a tramp of negro extraction on a bone-shaker was easily first”. Political correctness was not strong a strong feature at that time.

Fred married Emma Florence Willis in Daventry District in December, 1910. There was one child of the marriage, Margery, born in 1914.

There are no military records in respect of Fred Booker.
