FREDERICK CHARLES GURNEY
Fred Gurney was baptised on 7/3/1886. His mother was Clara Gurney.
The 1911 census shows him living in West Haddon with J Eaglestone, aged 67, a farm labourer, Harriett Eaglestone his wife aged 78, James Gurney aged 53 and Frederick Charles Gurney aged 25, employed as a general labourer.
Military records dated 10/9/1914 shows his enlistment, aged 25. He joined the Royal Engineers on a Short Service Attestation, service number 50288. On 2/10/1914 he joined the 85th Field Company.
He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 14 4 or 17 7 1917 – poor writing on army record and he returned home to West Haddon to 44 or 47 Harday’s.
It is believed he married Emily Gertrude Trist but I could find no record of the marriage.
A Frederick Charles Gurney died on 19/11/1983 at Westland’s Home, Oliver Street, Rugby.
