Horace Leonard Muddiman

Parish Records show the baptism of Leonard Muddiman on 4th June, 1893.   His father Jabez is shown as a labourer.

Jabez, his father was born in Long Buckby in 1838.   There are different entries as to when he died.   One shows his death on 29/1/1912 aged 73.   Another entry shows his death in March, 1912 aged 74.

Jabez married twice.   His first marriage was in October 1880.   He then married Leonard’s mother, Sarah Ann West (born West Haddon) in 1881.

The 1901 Census entry shows the Muddiman family living in Guilsborough Road, West Haddon. with Jabez as head of the household aged 63 working as an ordinary farm labourer

Sarah his wife aged 49, and their family all born in West Haddon, Ernest (J) aged 22 a horse-keeper on a farm,  Frank (Frances Alfred) aged 15 a shoemaker, Lizzie (Elizabeth May)

Fred and Leonard (Horace) aged 8 born West Haddon 30/3/1893.

The 1911 Census does not show an address.   The household then consisted of Jabez, then aged 73, an pensioner;  his wife Sarah aged 59; Frank aged 25, a nurseryman; Lizzie aged 23, a domestic servant; Fred aged 21 a farm labourer; and Leonard, aged 18, a nurseryman.

The Medal Award Rolls show the presentation of the British War Medal and Victory Medal to Private Leonard Muddiman for service between 1914 and 1920 with the Labour Corps, service number 512942, and previously with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, service number 3422.

Horace Leonard married Winifred A Vines in Rugby in December, 1922 (entry 6d 1439).   Parish Records show the birth of two children to the marriage.   A daughter Margaret June was baptised on 5/4/1925 and a son Dennis George, born 7/8/1929, was baptised on 8/9/1929.   Horace Leonard was employed as a railwayman.

His death was registered in September 1971 having died aged 78.
