Full Name Harry Thomas Adams
HARRY THOMAS ADAMS, known as Harry, was born in West Haddon on 8 January 1884, the second child of Frederick George and Elizabeth Adams, née Earl. Harry is listed in the 1891 census aged 7 years, and again in the census of 1901 aged 17 and a carpenter. He does not appear anywhere in the 1911 census. Harry T Adams is included on the passenger list of an American Lines ship sailing from New York, USA, and landing at Liverpool on 14th April 1915. We could assume, therefore, that at some time between 1911 and 1915 Harry travelled to USA, although no direct evidence of this is available. His involvement in the Great War is equally uncertain, the only available record showing a Harry T Adams as “US WW1 Draft Registration La Salle Illinois 1917/1918” but no record of his return to USA between 1915 and 1918 has been found. The only other fact discovered is that Harry’s father Frederick George Adams died in 1924. His mother, Elizabeth, died in September 1935.
I am particularly unsure of this entry, not having seen any of the original documentation and the duplication of names makes me wonder if notes for the above and for Frederick George Adams born 1893 , are confused with each other. See the name of Harry T Adams’ father being the same as that of the previous soldier, yet the latter was born 9 years after the listed soldier so couldn’t have been Harry T Adams’ father. How can we check all this?
