W Clarke


 John Henry W Clarke was born in West Haddon during the July – September quarter of 1895.   The 1901 Census shows him, aged 6, living with his mother Kate, aged 43, born Widdington, Northamptonshire  (1858), living at Berryvale, St Faith, Within, Hampshire.

In 1911, aged 16 he was living at 18 Crescent Road Wimbledon with his mother, then aged 49 (does not equate with the earlier census) who described herself as “Independent”.

He married Millie Beatrice Tilson on 19/6/1915 – other entries in his documentation give the date of April 1915.   Their first child, John Henry, was born on 27/7/1916.

John Henry, a moulder, joined on a Short Service Attestation in Kettering on 20/9/1915 with the Royal Engineers while living at 46 Silver Street, Northampton.   His service number was 73461.   He was employed as a driver and left for France on 20/8/1916 with 119 Draft.   He was placed on the reserve on demobilisation on 11/3/1919 having served 3 years 173 days.   He was discharged on demobilisation on 31/3/1920.

He re-enlisted with the 4th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (T.A.) with the regimental number 5878561 and served from 23/6/1922 until 22/6/1929.   He was living at 15 House, 4 Road, Harlestone Road at the time with his wife Millie, sons John Henry and Robert Royston and daughter Millie Beatrice.

John Henry W Clarke died in 1941.
