Wilfred West

Wilfred West was born in Northampton, his birth being registered in the April-June quarter of 1891.   His family had long term connections with West Haddon and it is possible, if calculations are correct, to trace his lineage, in West Haddon, down to his great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather who died in 1750.

Wilfred’s name first appears in official records in the1901 Census which shows his family living in a “Cottage” in West Haddon.   The family consisted of:

William T (Thomas) West     Head               Aged 46   House painter   Born West Haddon  5/6/1884   Died 10/1935

There were numerous entries in military records for personnel named Wilfred West but without further information I could not find any link to this Wilfred West.

Wilfred married Lillie Dowdy (born 1895) at Newport Pagnell in the April-June quarter of 1920.   They had two children: Edward West, born 1921; and Arthur West, born 1923.

Lillie West died in 1936 and Wilfred married Frances M Stratford in the October-December quarter of 1950.   They had one daughter: Rosemary West, born 1951.

Wilfred’s death at the age of 75 was registered in December 1966.   His occupation was described as a painter
