William Adams does not appear on the War Memorial, but the Northampton Mercury dated 9/11/1917 reported that William Adams of the London Regiment had been wounded in the right arm and leg and was hospitalised in Stockport. He was described as the second son of Mr and Mrs J Adams, Market Gardeners of West Haddon
I have not found a William Adams on the village record of baptisms with a father whose name starts with an ‘A’ nor have I been able to find in any census a William Adams living in West Haddon. I can only assume, therefore, that William Adams and his family were not West Haddon residents but that his parents had a market garden business in the village. If this was the case his name would likely appear on any memorial in his home village or town.
It appears that he continued to be involved in the life of the village as this image taken from a photograph of the village football team in 1924 suggests.
